Filling the Gap Between UI and Smoke Tests at FREENOW

With every FREENOW app release, we aim to create an increment that “just works™” for our drivers, and any crashes, especially those requiring a hotfix, should be promptly detected and resolved in the development lifecycle. Until now, we’ve relied on a combination of unit, UI, and smoke tests. However, over time, we’ve discovered that this leaves too many loopholes and we ended 2023 with a 30% Change Failure Rate1. Comparing this with the rate that iOS had in the same year, it can be assumed that Android is more prone to this....

mITX Build with Thunderbolt Support

I have one of those LG 4k UltraFine monitors for work at home that are just “made for Apple” by supporting only Thunderbolt. That works perfectly as long as you use an Apple product, but falls short if you want to use the same monitor also for your gaming pc which usually just have HDMI or DP graphical output. In the ideal world I just wanted to unplug the TB cable once I’m finished with work and plug it into the gaming rig, so I could keep using the mouse & keyboard without having to mess around....

Barcelona is opening the streets for pedestrians

Pre-Corona Barcelona had started this year with a program called Obrim Carrers as part of its efforts to fight climate emergency. The goal was to “enjoy a city free of exhaust fumes, motorbikes, cars and noise” by opening major streets in different parts of Barcelona just for pedestrians, bikes, etc. for a part of the weekend ^1. This should be accompanied by several activities like games for children or concerts. The plan was to close these streets once a month and only for a few hours during late Saturday or early Sunday....
